Xunta de Galicia, COAG and Fundación RIA initiate a planning process for a sustainable Galicia in 2030.
In collaboration with the Xunta de Galicia and the College of Architects, the Fundación RIA is launching a planning process that aims to position Galicia as a European benchmark for sustainability by 2030. With the advice of a scientific committee and the involvement of the different levels of administration, its mission is to promote coordinated governance to improve the relationship between the built and natural environment.
To this end, it will establish, through the review of current strategic plans and documents, the priorities that should guide territorial planning in this decade.
Among other objectives, the aim is to improve the habitable environments of towns and cities; to integrate agroforestry production systems that preserve biodiversity; to manage water, energy and waste from a circularity logic; and to articulate the territory through sustainable mobility.
The first results of the work will be presented at the end of the year and will establish a starting point for the preparation of subsequent strategic planning documents.
David Chipperfield to open Casa RIA in Santiago de Compostela
As part of its commitment to the sustainable development of Galicia and the protection of its natural and cultural values, the RIA Foundation, a non-profit initiative founded by David Chipperfield in 2017, will inaugurate in the center of Santiago de Compostela a new space open to the community in which an extensive public program of activities will be developed.
The building located in Rúa Virxe da Cerca, which will bear the name CASA RIA, will offer publicly accessible spaces that will host a varied program of events, talks, conferences and exhibitions related to the work of the RIA Foundation, promoting debate and proactive planning that will enable the environmental, economic and territorial challenges of the present and future of Galicia to be addressed and projecting its results to other territories. This program will attract local and international experts, institutions and collaborators from different disciplines and sectors, who will find in CASA RIA a place of exchange and application of knowledge.
After three years of work in a space ceded by the City Council of Santiago, the former sanatorium will become the new headquarters of the RIA Foundation, from which the team will coordinate its research and projects structured around three main axes: urban planning; sustainable management of the territory; and the culture of architectural and urban design. The building's facilities will also allow for temporary student stays and research residencies in collaboration with institutions of international reference, as well as including an architectural studio that will support the work of the RIA Foundation and the development of its program.
CASA RIA is expected to open its doors in early 2023.

First week of the Barbanza workshop for the Master's Degree in Architecture at ETSAC
The architecture and urbanism workshop is taking place between August 31 and September 4 in Ribeira and will continue at the School of Architecture of A Coruña ETSAC-UDC for another week.
This workshop is developed within the framework of the Master's Degree in Architecture (MUA) as a preliminary phase to the work to be carried out by the final year students of the School of Architecture of A Coruña (ETSAC - UDC) during the academic year 2021-2022. In order for the students to get to know the dynamics of the territory in which they will develop their projects, the RIA Foundation and ETSAC collaborate in the organization of a workshop in the municipality of Ribeira, which for five days will coordinate talks and discussions with experts from different fields, field visits, interviews and joint work sessions.
